The Brief
London City Airport, an international hub in the heart of London, was originally constructed in 1987 and has recently undergone renovations to meet modern standards. A key part of this project was upgrading the windows in one of the terminals, addressing both outdated aesthetics and functionality.
The Challenge
Many window panes had failed due to aircrafts in close proximity of the glass, and numerous windows had become damaged due to specification flaws or frame failures. With tight deadlines and stringent aviation regulations, the client needed a commercial window company that could expedite the security screening process and provide a future-proof solution.
The Solution
MGC Glazing offered the perfect solution with its Areo-Glass System, which complies with international standards such as those set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The enhanced security features and superior performance of the Areo-Glass system addressed all of the client’s concerns.
Security
Our Anti-bandit resistant glass is engineered to withstand ballistic impacts, providing exceptional protection against various threats. This ensures the safety of passengers, staff, and infrastructure.
Acoustic Performance
The Areo-Glass System significantly reduces noise pollution, creating a tranquil atmosphere amidst the bustling airport activity. By minimising noise levels, it enhances the passenger experience and makes airport spaces more pleasant.
Optimal Visibility
Despite its robust protective qualities, the Areo-Glass System offers excellent optical clarity. This allows security personnel and passengers to maintain clear sightlines, ensuring an open and welcoming environment without compromising on safety.
The Outcome
Installing the Areo-Glass System has transformed the terminal, offering travelers a more enjoyable experience and providing the client with the assurance of enhanced safety. Additionally, the system improves the concourse’s thermal efficiency by reducing glare and heat, contributing to the airport’s sustainability efforts.
We have had MGC Glazing system in the terminal building for over six months now, and we are highly impressed with the quality and performance. We won’t hesitate to introduce this system to future upgrades within and around the airport, especially with the MGC Glazing technicians and installation team on future projects
