  • Project Size Window Replacement
  • Product City-Glass System

The Brief

Count Energy Distribution approached MGC for glass replacement in Essex. We were briefed to replace several second-floor windows at their commercial office. These windows, made from green anti-sun glass, reduced heat from sunlight and maintained the building’s energy-saving capabilities. We needed to match the existing glass while upgrading the overall performance.

The Challenge

Our expert window installers in Essex inspected the site and identified several access issues. The windows were awkwardly positioned along a narrow walkway, made more complicated by overhead safety netting, which restricted the use of our standard equipment. Given these constraints, our team needed to carefully plan the removal and installation of the City-Glass windows to ensure maximum safety while working within the limited space.

The Solution

Despite the limited use of equipment and the tricky positioning of the windows, we still needed to meet Count Energy’s specifications. We used our City-Glass System, an ideal match for the original green anti-sun glass while enhancing energy efficiency and durability.

In selecting the replacement glass, we focused on three key areas:

  • Energy efficiency – We used Low-E glass to improve insulation and reduce heat loss, maintaining a comfortable indoor climate while optimising energy use.
  • Safety and durability – We chose high-quality toughened glass to meet strict safety regulations and provide resistance against potential impacts, ensuring the windows would last for years.
  • Aesthetic match – The City-Glass System allowed us to replicate the look of the original windows, including the green tint, while enhancing UV protection and durability.

We could not use our standard window installation equipment due to the positioning of the windows. Luckily, we have strong connections and partnerships within the industry to ensure access to specialised equipment for more complex projects. We collaborated with MEWPS (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) to source a compact scissor lift that could navigate the narrow walkway.

After a thorough safety review, including risk assessments and method statements, we were ready to proceed with the installation.

The Outcome

Our team safely removed the existing safety netting and completed the window replacements efficiently – all done on the same day. Our Essex window installers fitted the new double-glazed windows, integrating them into the curtain walling system, with the frames reassembled to ensure a secure and precise fit. As always, safety was our top priority throughout the project, and we delivered the installation on time with low disruption levels to Count Energy’s operations.

High-performance City-Glass restored the functionality of the building and improved its energy efficiency and durability. MGC’s careful planning, expertise and attention to detail ensured the job was done effectively, even in a challenging environment.
