The Brief
MGC was called to the prestigious Jet Centre London to carry out multiple commercial glazing jobs. The projects involved replacing broken curtain wall windows, walkway glazing and overhead canopy Perspex. Each task required specialised skills, certifications and a deep understanding of the civil aviation authority’s strict regulations. With safety and precision as top priorities, our team set out to restore the centre’s glazing to optimal standards.
Our Approach
We began by obtaining a full works permit and ensuring compliance with all required protocols before starting the glazing repairs. Each part of the project was carefully planned and executed to minimise disruption to the Jet Centre while adhering to strict safety standards.
- Curtain wall window replacement –The broken curtain wall window posed a security and safety risk. MGC Glazing swiftly replaced the damaged window and repaired the existing aluminium frame parts. The replacement glass was custom-made to meet aviation regulations and precisely matched the existing installation. The new glass featured an anti-sun tint to enhance occupant comfort inside the building, protecting them from harmful UV rays while maintaining visual clarity.
- Walkway glazing replacement – Another important task was replacing the broken walkway glass. Due to its design, the glass was suspended and secured by four bolts attached to a steel walkway frame. The MGC team templated the existing structure to ensure a perfect fit and replaced the glass with heavy-duty, toughened safety glass. We added manifestation to match the existing design, making sure occupants could see the glass, ensuring safety and visual continuity.
- Overhead canopy perspex replacement – The Perspex protecting the walkway had become brittle and damaged. We upgraded the broken Perspex to clear solid polycarbonate – Palsun UV2. This material offers the visual clarity of glass while being over 200 times stronger than the original Perspex. The result? A safer, more durable canopy that protected passengers and staff from the outdoor elements.
Each replacement required specialised equipment. We used a cherry picker for the overhead glazing to safely access and replace the damaged canopy without interfering with Jet Centre’s daily operations. Our team worked efficiently to deliver high-quality results without compromising safety or precision.
